Use this reference with Sonny 0.12.7. Background analysis is separate from Recipe and session optimization . Configuration acceptance does not establish that an analysis runtime, approved route or worker is available. The installed Linux build reported runtime_unavailable for the release’s enabled optimizer sample; its unconfigured default was disabled.

Download the generated input schema , field records and defaults , or disabled narrowing example . The schema is regenerated by the pinned release’s existing generator and compared byte for byte with its checked-in artifact. Defaults below come from the installed binary’s config validate --json response in an empty profile.

Files, environment and invocation

A selected root file contains an analysis member. Project and user config.yaml files also contain that member. The downloaded schema describes the member’s value, not the containing configuration document.

SONNY_ANALYSIS_JSON and --analysis-json each carry one versioned JSON object. There is no per-field environment spelling or per-field flag for these records. Do not invent SONNY_ANALYSIS_LIMITS_* names. Each patch requires version: 1.

The source resolver orders host defaults or a protected host base, user config, selected global file, Recipe defaults, outer-to-inner project files, SONNY_ANALYSIS_JSON, then --analysis-json. Installed checks exercised user, selected-global, project, environment and invocation inputs, including invocation over environment and environment over a selected file. Recipe and protected deployment layers remain source-defined here. This dedicated chain differs from the ordinary root-file selection rules .

Resolution happens for a new process/session configuration generation. These read-only commands inspect settings; they do not start an analysis worker. This reference does not establish hot reload into an existing session.

Omitted, null, false, zero and empty

Omitted fields inherit. An explicit false, zero or empty collection is a real value, subject to its field’s validation. Empty access lists mean deny all. An explicit null resets a patch member to its built-in default; the reported source gains (reset). Null cannot restore a budget or permission that an earlier layer removed. A later flag may win a value only within those inherited limits: raising a request budget from 0.04 to 0.06 was refused even though the built-in budget is 0.08.

Input objects reject unknown and duplicate keys. The source parser also rejects extra YAML documents, anchors, aliases and documents above 256 KiB. The generated schema cannot express all of these parser checks. Pipeline arrays replace the selected array; their item objects use the schema’s own required-member rules and do not acquire nullable patch semantics for every nested member.

Values and protected policy

Durations are explicit strings using Go duration units or whole days. Bare numbers and unitless strings are refused. Use 0s only where the field permits zero. The x-min-nanoseconds and x-max-nanoseconds records are runtime duration bounds, rather than JSON string-length constraints.

Budgets use exact USD amounts with at most nine fractional digits. Both string and ordinary numeric input preserve exact decimal values; exponent notation and excess precision were refused. Canonical output is a string. The schema’s numeric branch alone cannot enforce lexical precision, so run the native validator.

Every lower-trust layer must narrow the preceding layer. Limits, budget, cache capacity/retention, storage retention/export, access lists, enforced review and required critic graphs have additional protected rules. A relative prefix . means the already authorized workspace; it grants no filesystem-root access. Route classes express intent and do not authorize network egress.

The patch schema differs from the complete host configuration used inside protected authority documents: the complete form requires every non-optional member, including false booleans, and forbids null. A valid patch cannot stand in for an authenticated host authority document.

Inspect results before activation

Read data.resolved.config, data.resolved.sources, data.configured and data.startup from the native JSON response. Tested valid configurations exited 0; tested invalid or widening patches exited 3. Exit 0 can still accompany a blocked startup report. Check the reported state and reasons before concluding that a pipeline can run. Graph dependencies, critic identities, live pricing, approved routes and runtime authorization require further admission checks.

The field index retains schema bounds and the empty-profile defaults. A schema maximum is an input-shape bound, not permission to raise a host ceiling. Pinned source provenance is included in the downloadable field records.
